Frozen Planet DVDA huge thanks to everyone who took the time to enter our Frozen Planet competition over the silly season - it’s been great reading about your favourite arctic animals. We popped all your entries into our random prize draw, which has plucked out the following lucky winners: Karinna Lucey, Kathy Mason, Ingrid Elkner, Emma Puszkar and David Dehavelland. Congrats to all of you – you’ll be contacted shortly so we can arrange to send you your prize! Don’t forget, Frozen Planet is in stores now.

This competition is now closed, but to enter…  We asked you to tell us  about your favourite arctic animal! (We think penguins and polar bears probably win.)

    Polar Bears – I am fascinated to know that the white ones have black skin – their hair shafts are hollow and reflect light making them look white – awesome!

    Polar Bears – They are such beautiful, majestic and fearsome creatures yet so playful.

  5. I love seals, epecially the look in their eyes. I was lucky to see seals in the wild in Australia and NZ.
    I’m sure seing seals in the Artic must be a complete different experience.

    Polar Bear, pure white pristine fur, so soft, fluffy and beautiful, I’d love nothing more than to give one a cuddle and maybe even play wrestle. And their cubs are sooooooo cute :)

    Penguins – ungainly on land but graceful and skilled fishermen in water and what they go through to find a mate, tend the egg and hatchling is awesome!!

    The Arctic Fox. I love the way their fur changes colour with the seasons, that would be so handy!!! Also the Mum and Dad both help to raise the pups, that’s handy too!!!

    The King Penguins have a really aristocratic appearance, always looking impeccably clean and dignified. The colouring around their head and neck makes them stand out from the other species of penguins

    Love the big eyes on the seals, the cute waddle of a penguin and Polar Bears are the most interesting creatures when hunting!

    polar bears there fascinating creatures the male polar bears may grow 10 feet tall and weigh over 1400 pounds. Females reach seven feet and weigh 650 pounds. In the wild polar bears live up to age 25,and there still fascinating no matter how many programs we watch.

    Penguins for sure. There is an island off the coast of WA called Penguin Island. The island is known for its population of Little penguins (also known as fairy penguins). They roam free on the island and its just the most beautiful sight to see them roaming free, not locked up behind glass etc. They are gorgeous little fellas.

    They are the best mothers. And with claws like that it is amazing that they can be so gentle with their cubs.

    The elephant seal is currently on the ‘threatened’ list but have been protected from being hunted for their blubber for many years and the population has steadily grown. They are now however at risk again due to diminishing habitat and food supply. I like these seals because they are not as ‘cute’ as other animals in the region and therefore don’t get the same amount of publicity.

    But Polar Bears are active, ferocious furry friends,

    The polar bears for their enlightened attitude towards each other. As I mentioned to my wife, the male can weigh as much as three times as the female but is never asked to diet.

    Leopard Seals, just dont tease them about there freckles because they have no sense of humour and will give you a cold shoulder and a frosty bite but in the water there the synchronized swimmers of the ocean and love a partner to turn too

    I adore orcas (or as most people call them “Killer Whales”) they remind me of wolves because they stay close to their family like a pack would, and i was amazed to see them coming up onto the shore to catch their prey in one of David Attenboroughs documentries.

    Penguins are amazing in everyway!. We had a penguin for about a week after a friend found it on a beach tangled up in fishing line. My parents had someone release it again at kangaroo island in SA.

    The Arctic fox isn’t an introduced species like here, there it lives in its element. So much so that in winter it turns white!

    Emperor Penguins because they are so cute when they waddle around, slide and play. Love it that DAD has to do a lot of WORK walking around to keep the egg warm- great to see the MEN being RESPONSIBLE for ensuring healthy offspring!
